Whether you ride a trike on paved city streets or highway, being able to bring it to a controllable stop is absolutely crucial. When you're pushing down the brake pedal or squeezing the lever, the very first part of your brake system that is activated is the master cylinder. Creating hydraulic pressure, it initiates the process of braking. Running inside a cylindrical bore, the cylinder's inner piston forces brake fluid to enter the line thus activating the brakes. Also, there are special rubber seals to provide tightness. Should any of these components wear out, most likely, you won’t be able to stop safely.
The seals are some of the most commonly deteriorating parts of a master cylinder. If you have noticed leaks, it's time for you to check the seals.
