When it comes to motorcycle building and customization, there's as much art as there is science so even on bikes that have a completely hidden frame, it still defines the look. Fenders are more than just plastic or metal shields that keep water, debris, and sleet from being thrown up by the tires. Their shape and size, the way that they follow the curve of the wheel define your bike's style. On some motorcycles, they fully wrap the sides of the tires and partly the wheels, while on others they are as small and unobtrusive as possible.
