Unless you drive an electric bike, your motorcycle definitely needs fuel to run. For this reason, it is equipped with a special fuel container, known as a gas tank. It is connected directly to the fuel system of your bike for a quick and safe fuel supply.

Unlike a car or truck where a gas tank is hidden from the eye, the fuel tank of your motorcycle is an essential body part which not only serves as a fuel container, but also gives your bike a custom look. So, the way it looks is no less important than its ability to operate. You should also keep in mind that a gas tank with a higher capacity, when filled to the full, will increase the total weight of your bike even if the tank itself is lighter than the original one, which may affect your fuel consumption and acceleration.
The fuel tank of your bike is hermetically sealed to prevent leaking and keep dust and moisture out. Although, when you’re riding, the level of fuel inside the tank becomes lower, creating free space which should be filled out with something. This is the job of your fuel tank venting system that allows your tank to breathe, releasing both vacuum and pressure. As a rule, the venting process is done with either a vented cap or pressure vent. It is crucial that the tank matches the type of your venting system, so bear this in mind when purchasing a new gas tank.
