The motocross or dirt bike that you have was specifically created to be ridden on natural terrain, which means rather high stresses not only on the suspension but also on the motor. This assembly was engineered to be lubed and cooled by motor oil, flowing in abundance through its inner mechanisms and lubricating all the moving parts including the pistons, rings, crank, bearings, and various others. Oil creates a film between contacting components in order to lower the abrasion and wear of metal surfaces. As this liquid can also be used as a coolant, it contacts with very hot parts and may overheat, which lowers its viscosity and leads to higher oil consumption.
In some models, this fluid runs through a special radiator designed to cool it down by the oncoming wind.
