Installing new and improved exhaust parts on your motocross or dirt bike is one of the most popular types of upgrade. It is a quick and easy way of unlocking more power from your 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine and adding some shiny, aggressive-looking details to your motorcycle. On the digital shelves of our online store, you can find a wide range of full exhaust systems, slip-ons, mufflers, silencers, exhaust covers, inserts, baffles, spark arrestors, heat shields, deflectors, clamps, gaskets, and other accessories and hardware pieces. Along with your new exhaust system, the installation of high-performance air intake components is highly recommended.

Since you seek to unlock the full potential of your engine with your new intake and exhaust parts, it is more likely that the carburetor on your 2-stroke engine will need re-jetting. With the new configuration of air intake and exhaust, the air and fuel mixture becomes too lean, meaning that it lacks fuel. The re-jetting process involves draining fuel from the carburetor, removing and disassembling the carburetor, installing the new jets, and putting all parts together again. After testing, if you feel that your carburetor still does not provide enough fuel, you have to repeat the process until you find the right jet kit for maximum efficiency.

If you own a bike powered by a 4-stroke engine with fuel injection, the tuning process becomes much simpler. You just need to acquire an EFI tuner which you can install yourself or go to a trusted mechanic. The new controller will regulate the time that the injectors stay open thus providing enough fuel for the smooth operation of your engine. But when choosing motocross/dirt bike exhaust parts, you have to think not only about power gains but also about silencing your noisy new exhaust as well as making sure that sparks flying out of your pipe won’t start a forest fire.

All dirt bike exhausts come with either mufflers or silencers. It is the part that makes sure that the noise level of your exhaust doesn’t exceed a decibel limit enforced by track owners or public land regulations. For bikes with 2-stroke engines, it is most often called a “silencer.” It is fairly easy to differentiate a 2-stroke exhaust from its 4-stroke counterpart. All 2-stroke exhaust systems have expansion chambers that use the pressure of exhaust gasses to push escaped air and fuel mixture back into the cylinder during the intake stroke. Silencers for 2-stroke exhausts are generally much more affordable than their 4-stroke analogs.

If you purchase a muffler for your 4-stroke exhaust system separately, it is usually called a “slip-on.” Off-road slip-ons feature more durable construction, while motocross exhausts are designed to reduce overall weight using materials like carbon fiber. Note that you can reduce the noise level by repacking your muffler. Off-road exhaust systems require repacking every 6-8 hours of riding since dirty packing restricts the flow of gases resulting in the loss of power. During competitions, it is recommended to repack mufflers after each race. The majority of aftermarket 4-stroke slip-ons already feature spark arrestors. If not, you can add a spark-arrestor end cup that meets the requirements of the United States Forest Service.
