When choosing one or another type of a scooter lock, you should consider several important factors, including the construction of your bike and what kind of objects you will secure the motorcycle to. The latter is no less important than the quality and reliability of your lock since even the best lock can be useless if there is no object to attach it to.
A U-lock is the most common type of scooter locks available on the market. It is reliable and easy to use, as well as suitable for just about any application. As a rule, the U-element of the lock is fixed around the frame of your bike or other durable body part and the object you secure your vehicle to. They are also ideal to use with a cable lock or chain to ensure maximum protection against thieves. When used in tandem with a cable, it allows you to secure not only the frame but also one of the wheels.
A cable lock is another great option for most scooters. It is flexible and lightweight which allows you to fit it around many fixed objects. The significant length of the cable also adds to the usability of this lock and makes it an ideal solution for city riders. Most cable locks are manufactured from intertwined metal fibers which are extremely durable. The metal core is wrapped in a plastic coating to protect your bike from scratches or dents due to contact with the metal. The plastic cover also protects the core from rust and the elements that may damage it.
Chain locks are last but not least in the list of the most popular types of scooter locks available on the market. They combine the flexibility and versatility of cable locks with the durability and reliability of U-locks. They come with a high-quality padlock to deliver the highest level of protection against damage, which makes them a product of choice for virtually any scooter regardless of its size, weight or design. Similar to cable locks, they also have a durable core, usually a hardened metal chain, wrapped in a very tough protective cover.
