Long sliders are more suitable for less experienced riders who tend to ride slower and are more likely to misstep and drop the motorcycle while standing or tip it over on a driveway or parking lot. In that case, a longer slider absorbs the energy of impact better. While on the move, after absorbing the initial impact, sliders must keep the frame and body of the motorcycle elevated over the pavement. It works well with longer sliders on a smooth surface at moderate speeds. In the race track environment where speeds are much higher, long sliders may give your bike better leverage for flipping and rolling causing much more expensive damages.

In other words, you need to guess the type of a probable crash to know which type of sliders would be the most suitable for your situation. If you like off-road activities and tend to spend a lot of time riding your adventure or dual sport bike on the soft ground, a single pointy slider on each side of the frame is not a good idea.
