Another telling sign of bad water pump seals and gaskets is a somewhat milky color of motor oil. It means that it contains coolant. A typical motorcycle water pump consists of an impeller and pump cover. An impeller shaft sits inside the right-side engine’s case cover. This shaft is actuated by the primary gear of the engine crankshaft. Since you need to remove the case cover to service the pump, a repair kit usually contains a case cover gasket, water pump cover gasket, inner and outer seals for the pump shaft, a bearing, and washers.
