It is no secret that most batteries gradually lose their charge over extended periods of inactivity. Discharge values may differ depending on the battery type or the season of the year, but whatever battery is installed in your motorcycle, it may need extra charging after the winter months or several weeks of storage in a garage or parking lot. There are several kinds of batteries, and aside from the traditional lead-acid ones, there are more advanced AGM (absorbed glass mat) and gel models. The last two types are more stable and have a lower discharge rate, while flooded batteries are very sensitive to deep discharge and serve much less time if undercharged.
However, even high-tech batteries may need to be charged once in a while. This should be done the right way while avoiding overcharging or undercharging. Although there are universal chargers suitable for both automobiles and bikes, those meant only for motorcycles typically supply smaller amperage (up to 7.5A approximately) that should not be surpassed to avoid damage to the battery. However, many modern chargers and battery maintainers employ smart microprocessors determining the current battery status to optimize the charging process for maximum efficiency and safety, so you don't need to be an electrician to complete the job.
But still, it's better to be aware of some aspects before selecting the right equipment for your bike. First, you need to know your battery's voltage (6 or 12V) and type (flooded or not). If it's flooded, you may need to check the level of the liquid and probably add distilled water. When being charged, no battery should be hot to the touch. Our in-house specialists have gathered many different cutting-edge devices featuring the most effective charging algorithms, requiring minimum attention from the motorcycle owner, and making battery maintenance easy and safe. Some models allow for charging several vehicles in one go, be it an ATV or snowmobile standing next to your motorcycle. Featuring spark-proof connectors, informative indicators or displays, automatic voltage detection, and other solutions that vary in different models, our products will maximize your battery’s storage capacity and lifespan.
